I haven’t done any “On the Rise” articles lately because I realized I’m not good at writing much about fashion (I looked back at my other posts – and YUCK). Anywho, I wanted to give it another try since I don’t want this blog to be mainly about makeup & beauty. This next brand I’m going to talk about has to be one of my most favorite clothing brands to date – 12 Grain.

I accidentally came across this brand when I was looking for Imaginary Foundation, which I will be writing about a little later. I was just clicking random brands and clicked 12 grain since I’ve never seen it before. I saw this really nice shirt called, “Sneaker Head” and fell in love immediately. It was an image of a boy surrounded by shoeboxes and had tons of sneakers stacked on top of his head. I was lucky to find one of his shirts at a Zumies store where I was called, “Walrus Mask” (I believe) and had to purchase it right away. Its my favorite shirt of all time. All artwork for 12 Grain is by Sam Flores, an artist located in San Francisco. His art is really eye catching, innovative – everything is just so unique. I love that he uses lots of pastels and warm colors in his designs. I like the fact that 12 grain doesn’t have neon colored or super bright colored shirts like most brands are doing nowadays. I like that they’re basic colors and the designs itself draws the attention. I encourage everyone to check this brand out. Its definitely worth the look!

See more of Sam Flores’ artwork on his blogspot and do visit his main wesbite. For his clothing, do check Upper Playground or Digital Gravel.

Image From Atelier Maquillage
I’ve always loved Atelier’s eyeshadows – they’re so pigmented even without a base! I especially love their Pro Cake eyeshadows – most of them are matte (which I am currently loving), and its much bigger than MAC eyeshadows. MAC eyeshadows are about 1.5grams while with Atelier, its 3grams. They have such a wide range of colors, I don’t even know where to start! Though it is hard to order – especially if you’re not in Europe, but fret not, you can still purchase their amazing products. I’ve been looking around to see how I can order them and I finally found out how I could!

So, if you’re an Atelier lover like me and would like to purchase their products, here’s how you do it:

For: US, United Kindom &Canada
To order select on the site, copy the codes and quantities and send by email to atelier@ateliermaquillage.com with the address of delivery. You will receive by return a valuation with shipment costs and the way to pay your order.

If you are not from the US, UK or Canada and would still like to get a hold of their products, you can email them personally. They reply fairly quick, and I’m sure you’d be able to purchase them somehow.

To view their products, do visit Atelier Maquillage.

So we all know how innovative MAC is with their collections. From the creative names – to the packaging, MAC always manages to catch ones eyes. Now, MAC introduces their Limited Edition Summer Collection called, “Naked Honey”. This collection will be available June 11, 2009 in North America and July 2009 International.

Following the example of their fabled Queen, Cleopatra, Egyptians bathed in honey and milk. Queen Anne of England used it to silken her hair; from the Ancient Greeks to the Roman Empire, honey has never lost its regal, ever-amber lustre. We love the luxury of its sensual essence…but we also know that it’s a highly efficient and wholesome humectant and healer.

Everyone wants their skin to look its best – naturally. So I think a lot of you would like to know about this. I joined this giveaway contest on Leon’s website and I think you all should join too. Honestly, I’ve been planning to buy her e-book, and since she’s giving away a copy of it once again, I can’t give up this opportunity, haha. I actually tried some of her DIY remedies and they work pretty good. I’ve also heard some good raves on her Lash Mantra as well, and the good thing is – everything’s all natural. So anyone who’s wanting to try the natural DIY skincare route, definitely check out her awesome website and join this giveaway!

A lot of us already know that yogurt is good for our bodies. Yogurt is also known as a beauty food and is a good effective remedy for acne. Yogurt contains lactic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) and a number of nutrients that may mildly stimulate collagen production in the skin. It is both a dietary component and a natural remedy that contains numerous antibiotic properties. It has the ability to make your skin smoother, softer and less prone to acne breakouts. Yogurt can also double as a cleanser due to its antifungal properties.

I recommend plain non-fat yogurt because it has because its lighter on the skin and won’t be too overwhelming – especially for combination/oily skin. Normal to dry skin can try low-fat yogurt. I use yogurt with aspirin, since I don’t like the stickiness of honey much. It does make your skin soft and supple.

Some remedies to get you going:

  • Honey, Egg Yolk & Yogurt Mask
It will exfoliate dead skin cells and gives your skin extra moisture. Safe for the eye area.
2 Tablespoons of raw, natural honey
    1 Egg Yolk
    2 Tablespoons Plain Yogurt
Mix everything together and apply all over your face. Leave the mask on for about 30 minutes and rinse off well with warm water.

  • Yogurt and Oatmeal Mask
    2 Tablespoons of Plain Yogurt
    1 Tablespoon of Oatmeal
    1 Tablespoon of Honey
After washing your face, massage the paste on your skin in a circular motion. Then leave it on for about 2 minutes, then rinse off.

  • Yogurt and Aloe Mask
    1/2 Cup of Plain Yogurt
2 Tablespoons of Aloe Gel (or a fresh aloe leaf)
Mix ingredients together to form a paste (using fresh aloe leaf – remove the skin and mash the pulp). After washing your face, apply all over and wait for 3 mintues then rinse off.

  • Yogurt and Orange Juice Whitening Treatment
    1 Tablespoon of Yogurt
    4-5 of Orange Juice
Mix and apply to your face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off. Use everyday for a month.

Remember that each person is different. What works for one person, may not work for another. Do experiment and test out certain amounts to see what’s good for you.
